Use Software Update to find and install updates for macOS, built-in apps like Safari, and apps downloaded from the App Store. Use Software Update Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu, then click Software Update to check for updates.
Steps to Update Safari Browser
- To keep Safari up to date for the version of macOS you're using, install the latest macOS updates. The most recent version of macOS includes the most recent version of Safari. For some earlier versions of macOS, Safari might also be available separately from the Updates tab of the App Store.
- Update Safari to version 12.0: What's New in Safari Safari 12 Safari 12 ships with iOS 12 and macOS 10.14. It is also available for macOS 10.13.6 and 10.12.
The Safari browser updates are released in the Software Update program along with major and minor macOS upgrades. You can manually check for new updates and install them if required.

The update frequency of the Safari browser for notebooks and desktop machines is quite low compared to other browsers.
Major upgrades are released along with the macOS annual upgrades (Mojave – >> Catalina). Whereas minor upgrades are released randomly once or twice in a quarter. However, if there are any security upgrades and patch fixes, the updates are immediately released.
In my experience, overall the upgrades are very slow yet powerful. And major upgrades are only released along with operating system upgrades.

Apple on Wednesday released Safari 14 for current Macs ahead of an expected macOS Big Sur launch later in 2020.
The Safari 14 update comes shortly after Apple releasediOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7 to the public. Apple's macOS Big Sur update, however, is still in beta testing.
Among other new additions, Safari 14 delivers customizable start pages, a new Privacy Report feature, and general performance enhancements. The update also squashes several bugs and security vulnerabilities in WebKit, including those related to cross-site scripting attacks and arbitrary code execution.
Users on macOS Catalina and macOS Mojave can download Safari 14 by heading to the System Preferences menu and clicking the Software Update button.
